We should not allow write_zeroes commands if the descriptor
was not opened for writing.

I do not think that this variable is needed.
The rpc system will be always executed in the first
call, so there is no sync issue, add a deleted variable
and put the free in the loop sounds not very clear.
For the ASAN issue (use req after free), I think
that the correct solution is that: we should store
the context first instead of defer the free of req.

This was partially fixed in commit 1e481d0438 ("nvmf: Do not allow NN
to change while connections present"), but we did not handle the case
where the user asked to add a NS with a NSID outside the current NN.
This patch reworks the logic (again) to be more straightforward and
hopefully more obviously correct.
Some confusion between max_allowed_nsid and max_nsid is also clarified;
if max_allowed_nsid is set, then max_nsid == max_allowed_nsid at all
times, so we don't need the extra logic when calculating NN in
spdk_nvmf_ctrlr_identify_ctrlr().

Currently this just includes the overall size of the
spdk_bdev_io pool and the size of the per-thread
spdk_bdev_io caches.

This will return the number of currently allocated threads.
Modify the bdev_io caching code to use this new API since these
caches are really per-thread, not per-core. SPDK does not support
dynamic threading yet, but once it does, we will want callers to be
using functions from the thread API - not counting the number of cores
allocated to the application.
spdk_env_get_core_count may still be useful as a helper function, so
it is still kept and not deprecated. For example, app.c uses it to
print the number of cores allocated to the application. bdevperf should
eventually be modified to use spdk_thread_get_count, but holding off on
that for now until spdk_event_allocate() uses threads instead of a reactor
lcore to specify where the event should be executed.

This corrects return code value of the bdev iscsi pollers. It was
needed to ensure all the pollers output consistent return code
values. This will further help in measuring consistent poller busy,
idle or unknown tsc stats.

This patch changes the default setting of IOAT copy engine from
Enabled to Disabled. Accordingly this patch changes the config file
specification for IOAT copy engine from "Disable Yes/No" to
"Enable No/Yes".
Subsequent patches will add a new JSON RPC to configure IOAT
copy engine dynamically.

Two new RPCs allocate and initialize options and conf dynamically.
Initialization of NVMf subsystem skips initialization of them
if they are already allocated.

To support the bandwidth rate limiting besides the IOPS rate
limiting, this patch is to add the support of the configuration
parse. The format will be as following to have a 10 (10M)
on the Malloc0 bdev. The default unit is in MB.

Reason: It should never fail, which should
comply with the logic in nvmf_tgt_destroy_poll_group.
For the current case, if the judement fails,
we still add the g_active_poll_groups, the logic
is not correct. And according to the analysis,
the poll group creation should not fail.

We need -lrt as well as -luuid. I'm not exactly sure how
this worked previously - but updating my dev box to
Ubuntu 18.04 LTS hit this problem. Any linking done
in the SPDK repository always uses SYS_LIBS which
includes uuid and rt so we should use it for linking
RocksDB db_bench as well.

This allows applications to trigger printing of the
default SPDK command line option usage messages if
needed. This could be useful in cases where the
app expects the user to specify a parameter and
finds the parameter was not specified after
spdk_app_parse_args() is finished.

The default is still to retrieve the bdev UUID, but now the end user may
also specify their own UUID if desired when adding NVMe-oF target
namespaces via construct_nvmf_subsystem or nvmf_subsystem_add_ns.

The spdk_jsonrpc_server_conn_remove() was just swapping last connection
with that is being removed. This was fine but not for BSD queues which
rely on its own address.
Simple fix would be to add STAILQ_INIT and STAILQ_SWAP for queued
requests but we can hit the same nasty and easy to overlook bug in
future. Instead convert connection array to linked list and move around
only pointers.

Instead of scanning a list of all qpairs, use a bit
mask to determine if the requested QID is unique.
This is not for performance reasons, but because
eventually the ctrlr's list of qpairs is going to
need to go away.

If requests are in flight at the time a timeout callback is configured,
we can't retroactively get the submission time of those requests; treat
them as not having a timeout.

This was partially fixed in commit ddeaeeec19 ("nvme: Only check
timeouts on requests from the same process"), but the function that
calls nvme_pcie_qpair_check_timeout() was also erroneously filtering out
the admin queue. Restore the original behavior of checking all queue
types.

For attach/detach command, the identify namespace data should be
updated during the namespace attribute notice event callback, while
here, in case of the driver may not set aer callback, so update the

This one is actually a bit tough to deduce in the specification.
The NVMe-oF spec says that QID errors detected in the RDMA
transport shall return an RDMA-specific error indicating
the problem. However, our code doesn't detect the error in
RDMA-specific code, and it isn't clear if the language is
a "must" or a "should".
The NVMe specification does clearly indicate what error
to return on invalid QID in response to a Create
I/O Queue Pair command. For now, return that while
we game plan whether we need to call into the RDMA
transport to correctly report this error.

When the shadow doorbell feature is enabled, no actual MMIO takes place
when a shadow update is sufficient; tighten the bounds of the updates to
g_thread_mmio_ctrlr in the two doorbell update locations so that we only
need to touch the thread-local variable when actual MMIO access is
required.

This patch does a little cleanup of SPDK SCSI layer APIs.
spdk_scsi_task_alloc_data() is only used in spdk_scsi_task_scatter_data().
spck_scsi_task_free_data() is only used in spdk_scsi_task_put().
The latter was called in UT code but this can be removed without any
degradation.
SPDK SCSI layer is relatively matured and these will not be used
out of lib/scsi/task.c.
Additionally memory leak detected by ASAN is fixed in this patch.

NVMf cnx acceptor poller is changed to check the asynchronous events
from the RDMA devices.
RDMA async events are polled together with RDMA CM events; the file
descriptors are combined into a poll fd array and processed in a single
poll syscall.
The errors handler is an empty placeholder for this patch, it just
prints the kind of event read from the IB device context.
The work for implementing event handling is left for later.

This begins the process of hiding data members in
spdk_bdev_io that don't need to be accessed from
within bdev modules.
One strategy would be to implement accessors for
every data member in the structure. However, that
may have negative performance effects. Instead,
create a new internal structure within the old
structure. This new structure will still be visible
for now, but at least makes clear which members
are accessible and which are not.
This patch shifts one data member to the new structure
as an example.

The memset was zeroing a lot of bytes that get
initialized either later in this function or elsewhere
in the submission code path. Eliminating these
extra memsets saves a few nanoseconds of CPU overhead
in the NVMe submission path.
Note: one use of the cpl data member depended on
the nvme_allocate_request memset. Since this use
case is not in the primary I/O path, just memset it
in that specific location before using it.

Rather than storing nvme_payload::type explicitly, use the SGL reset
function pointer as an indicator: if reset_sgl_fn is non-NULL, then the
payload is an SGL type; otherwise it is a contiguous buffer type.
This eliminates the one-byte type member from struct nvme_payload,
making it an even 32 bytes instead of 33, allowing the removal of the
awkward packing inside struct nvme_request.

There is some overhead notified for the message processing,
instead to always send a message to the QoS thread, check
whether the current thread is QoS thread or not. If yes,
queue the IO immediately base on the QoS logic.

Combine request lookup and abort into a single operation. Keeping them
separate would result in duplicating a lot of logic for finding the
proper list from which to remove aborted requests.
This is still a no-op for now, but it paves the way for aborting
requests that are still queued in software.

Reason: If we trigger the spdk_iscsi_conn_migration,
we may face the issue that the io channel of lun
is NULL(which means not allocated). So I think
that if we trigger the migration, we need to
stop the executing the further pdu of this conn
by the current polling group.
Also since the connection is triggered migration,
we should stop execution on the current core, and
let this connection be handled by next round.

This path works for disconnect events on qpairs at run time.
Disconnects in response to killing the target have
not been worked out yet.
This path does not currently wait for outstanding I/O to
complete.

Number of Namespaces of controller identify structure
defines the maximum number of namespaces supported by
this controller, for physical NVMe controllers, the NN
is a fixed number, while here, we set the same rule for
NVMeoF controllers.
After NVMe driver got namespace notice event, it should
update the namespace identify data structure for NS
attach/detach commands.

Per the NVMe specification, NN cannot change while there
are connections present. There was originally a check
for this that was removed in commit 763ab88 to match
the behavior in the Linux kernel. However, after a
discussion with the NVMe specification committee, SPDK
was originally correct.

The NVMe spec says that Identify Namespace should return a zero filled
data structure for namespaces that aren't active, rather than failing
the command with a status code of Invalid Namespace or Format.

The initiator may close the connection unexpectly
due to many differnent reasons, which should not

This brings DPDK 18.05 support and introduces
dynamic hugepage memory allocation.
The following is now possible:
./spdk_tgt -s 32
rpc.py construct_malloc_bdev 128 512
or even:
./spdk_tgt -s 0
Note that if no -s param is given, DPDK will still
allocate all available hugepage memory.
This has been tested with DPDK 18.05-rc6.

For some cases, especially for Admin commands, there maybe has
recursive commands, e.g.: in AER callback we may send a new AER
request, in such case, the current code can't process such
case. While here, move the completion queue head to next before
any response callback will fix such issue.

Abort is not currently implemented, since spdk_nvmf_qpair_get_request()
always returns NULL, but this will allow it to be implemented in a
thread-safe way.

This will allow multiple independent callers to request I/O statistics
without stepping on each other (previously the stats would be reset on
each request, which only works with a single caller).
This also means that we can now allow requesting stats while the VTune
integration is enabled.

Previously, lib/Makefile just hard-coded env_dpdk in the list of
directories to build; this won't work if the user has chosen a different
env implementation via CONFIG_ENV (or configure --with-env).
Modify lib/Makefile so that the user can either put their env
implementation directly into SPDK's lib directory (like env_dpdk) or
outside of the SPDK tree (in which case the user must handle building it
before building SPDK).

Add a new function and its RPC caller. By using it, we can
get the statistics of all the bdevs or the specified bdev.
Meanwhile, with this patch, the open source tool 'sysstat/iostat'
can support for SPDK. The 'iostat' tool can call this function to
get the statistics of all the SPDK managed devices via the rpc
interface.

virtio_blk bdevs inherit the name string from their virtio
devices. The string is always freed on virtio device destroy, so
trying to free it as a part of bdev cleanup would always result
in a double free.

Logical volume store bdevs should report the same buffer alignment
requirements as the base bdev of the logical volume store. For example,
a lvolstore on a Linux AIO bdev should require aligned buffers.

The whole params object is already optional, but making the parameter
optional as well allows the specification of an empty object for params
to work.
Some JSON-RPC clients make it more difficult to omit the params object
entirely; see issue #303.

The "jsonrpc" field, per spec, is meant to contain the exact string
"2.0" to indicate the version of the JSON-RPC specification implemented
by the client. We don't do anything useful with this information except
to drop requests for (theoretical) other versions, so it should be safe
to allow the parameter to be optional. If the version is specified, we
will still validate that it is 2.0.
This enables interoperability with a Go JSON-RPC client, as mentioned in

creation. RDMA doesn't support multi-process, but it still needs a

Avoid sending CNS values other than 0 and 1 to controllers with the
Identify CNS quirk added in commit 6442451b10 ("nvme: add a quirk for
identify 0x2").
This probably doesn't affect either of the controllers with the quirk in
practice, since this command is already only sent to controllers that
report NVMe version 1.3 or newer, but let's add the check anyway for
consistency.

iscsi_url is not need after bdev creation. Also implementing get_config
RPC call in next patches is quite problematic as information how bdev is
created using iSCSI URL is lost (eg username).

We've had cases (especially with vhost) in the past where we have
a valid vaddr but the backing page was not assigned yet. DPDK used
to return 0 as the phys addr in these cases but now it returns
RTE_BAD_IOVA. Unfortunately we don't have any tests currently
in the test pool that hit this condition, but at least one user
has an environment which hits it and this patch fixes their
problem.
Make sure we still work with older versions of DPDK as well.
Fixes issue #260.

Inflate call can be used on thin provisioned blob or clones.
Function allocates all unallocated clusters on specified blob and:
- For clones, copies data from backing blob.
- For thin provisioned blobs, clusters are zeroed.
After this call all dependency from specified blob is removed
what allows deletion i.e. snapshots.

The realloc breaks TAILQs inside the structures, which causes
subtle bugs. Instead, statically allocate all of the subsystem
arrays. This sets up the maximum number of subsystems to be
configurable, but does not actually expose it through the
config file yet.

Bdev layer has been recently refactored to share
internal module channels for *all* bdevs of the
same bdev module. This makes us return ENOMEM for I/O
of one bdev if another bdev of the same module (nvme, split, etc)
is entirely saturated. This is not the behavior we want,
as these bdevs may not have anything in common.
This partially reverts commit

We can't split passthru commands, since we don't know how they behave,
so make sure they do not exceed the NVMe controller's declared maximum
data transfer size.

Add base of JSON config fump for iSCSI subsystem in this patch.
JSON config dump for target node is already merged and it is added
to the JSON config dump for iSCSI subsystem first.
Besides, spdk_json_write_named_* APIs are applied to JSON config/info
dump for target node to reduce and clean the code in this patch.
Config dump for global parameters will be handled in different patches.

This assignment is converting from the libiscsi sense key enumerated
type to the SPDK one, and clang issues a warning for this case. We know
that these enums are equivalent, so just add a cast to avoid the

This clarifies the bdev_io completion callbacks, since they can now
assume that they always have a valid bdev_io. All call sites that
originally passed NULL for bdev_io now set an appropriate status code in
the task and complete it with the new spdk_vhost_nvme_task_complete()
function.

Thin provisioned blobs mark unallocated clusters with
cluster ID 0. During recovery from a dirty shutdown,
we must not try to claim cluster 0 - we should ignore
them instead.

When executing construct_nvme_bdev RPC method, if the NVMe SSD has
more than 32 namespace in it, then the response is displayed as invalid.
Increased the maximum number of namespaces supported per NVMe device from
32 to 128.

In JSON-RPC, string is allocated unconditionally in decode operation.
Hence if string is allocated in opts_init(), it will be overwritten without
any notice.
This patch is to keep compatibility to the config file and adjust to the
upcoming JSON-RPC for options initialization.

In the current implementation, even if global parameters in the config file
are wrong, they are ignored and default values are applied.
Now JSON config file is under development and is a good chance to break with
past and change to reject wrong parameters.
This patch add verify() function into spdk_iscsi_initialize_iscsi_globals().
Besides, this patch fixes the return code of iscsi_initialize_global_params().

Previously after IO is finished, we will put completion entry and
irq event notice at the same IO completion callback, for performance
consideration, move the irq event routine into IO poller context, this
can be used to implement interrupt coalescing feature in future.

In the previous patch, the failed reason is the logic
that admin qpair actively destroys the ioqpair when
the admin qpair is recevied early. For this part,
we need to investigate it later since for multiple core
usage in our current handling case, we possibly have
admin qpair firstly to enter the destruct phase even if
the initiator sends the I/O qpair deletion first. Thus,
the ioqpair deletion can be recycled twice.
And this patch is selecting the part of the logic:
only to make each ioqpair recycled by its own thread.

RPC state of the RPC server, g_rpc_state is set by spdk_rpc_set_state(state).
If the command line option '-w' is specified, g_rpc_state is initialized to
SPDK_RPC_STARTUP. Otherwise, g_rpc_state is initialized to SPDK_RPC_RUNTIME.
When g_rpc_state is initialized to SPDK_RPC_STARTUP, SPDK start RPC server
and wait for start_subsystems_init RPC.
When SPDK receive start_subsystems_init RPC, SPDK start initialization of
subsystems. The RPC waits for completion of initialization of subsystems.
When SPDK completes initialization of subsystems, SPDK change
g_rpc_state to SPDK_RPC_RUNTIME and then start application.
Upcoming new RPCs to initialize options of NVMf-tgt and iSCSI-tgt will be
able to be allowed before start_subsystems_init RPC is called.

Add state_mask to each RPC method and state to RPC server, respectively.
State mask of RPC method is set at registration. State of RPC server
is changed according to the state of the SPDK.
When any RPC method is recieved, if the bit of the RPC server is on in
the state mask of the RPC method, it is allowed. Otherwise, it is
rejected.
When any RPC is rejected by state_mask control, the new error code
is returned to describe the error clearly.

rte_mempool uses the following formula for its ring allocation size:

count = rte_align32pow2(mp->size + 1);
sz = sizeof(struct rte_ring) + count * sizeof(void *);
sz = RTE_ALIGN(sz, RTE_CACHE_LINE_SIZE);
```
With count==262144, rte_mempool was trying to allocate
(2MB + sizeof(struct rte_ring) physically contiguous memory.

This becomes especially useful when accidentally
trying to use vhost-blk socket as a vhost-scsi one.
There's no SCSI/Block identification within the protocol,
so blk messages can be interpreted as scsi ones.
This usually results in a bdev being created with
bs==0 && blocksize==0 and leads to a crash.
Nevertheless, this extra check should be here to protect
against malicious/incomplete vhost-scsi targets crashing
entire initiator apps.

The following assumes we use env_dpdk underneath.
rte_mempools use rte_rings internally. When creating
a mempool with capacity N, we internally try to create
a ring with least N+1 size. That's because rte_rings
need one extra empty element to differentiate between
the full and empty state. To make it worse, the ring
size has to be a power of two, so rte_mempools use
`rte_align32pow2(mp->size + 1)` for the size calculation.
And rte_ring memory has to be physically contiguous.
Allocating a mempool of capacity 262144 requires at
least (2 * 262144) * sizeof(void *) = 4MB memory. This
made us require at least 2 physically contiguous
2MB hugepages.

This will be used later instead of retrieving VS (potentially via a Get
property command for Fabrics) multiple times.
The Active NS List code was previously depending on the VER field of the
Identify Controller data, but this was only added with NVMe 1.2, so we
can't rely on it to detect NVMe 1.1 controllers; it is changed to use
the new cache VS value instead.

One of intended uses of spdk_blob_get_clones() is to retrive
number of clones from a snapshot. This is done by passing
NULL pointer for destination array.
In this case SPDK_ERRLOG is superfluous, as ENOMEM should
be handled appropriately by called.
Example of correct usage producing this error log is in vbdev_lvol.c
vbdev_lvol_dump_info_json().

The existing code was using sizeof() on a calculation that already
returned the right size, so this would originally just memset() 4 bytes
instead of the whole region.
The spec requires the doorbell buffer to be exactly one physical memory
page, and our controller emulation chooses MPS so that only 4096-byte
pages are supported, so just zero out the page and drop the calculation
entirely.

This will allow environment abstraction layers to provide different
types of memory depending on whether it needs to be DMA-able and/or
shared across multi-process boundaries. For the DPDK environment, the
flags can be ignored, since rte_malloc() supports both DMA-able and
shared memory.

This is the first step toward fixing the behavior of the lvol bdev
module so that it handles spdk_bdev_unregister() correctly.
Currently, when an lvol bdev is unregistered, this causes the associated
lvol to be deleted; this isn't the desired behavior, since
spdk_bdev_unregister() is just meant to drop the currently-exposed bdev,
as in a hot-unplug event, not destroy the backing storage.
The current implementation of the new destroy_lvol_bdev method still
calls into the exsting (broken) spdk_bdev_unregister() path, but this at
least lets us fix the existing delete_bdev RPC callers that really
intended to destroy the lvol.
The next step is to make vbdev_lvol_destroy() call spdk_lvol_destroy()
instead of unregistering the bdev, which will require cleanup in the
generic lvol layer to remove the close_only flag.

Currently QEMU vhost-nvme driver hasn't been pushed to QEMU community,
for vhost-user socket messages, QEMU can pick the opcode at any time,
QEMU 2.12 already picked 27-30 for other driver, for the purpose to
mitigate rebase work in future, while here, we reserve a bigger value
so that it will not conflict with QEMU for very long time.

DPDK commit 9df1ae8a888d ("eal: rename and move PCI resource structure")
introduced the new struct rte_mem_resource name; before that point, the
equivalent type was struct rte_pci_resource.
Since this is an easy fix, we can go ahead and patch around it; however,
users are highly recommended to use newer DPDK releases.

This new rte_vhost_va_from_guest_pa API takes an extra len parameter,
used to specify the size of the range to be mapped.
Effective mapped range is returned via len parameter.

This commit provides an API to obtain an information about
snapshot and clone relations.
The main objective is:
1) Determinate if we can delete snapshot (if have some created
clones),
2) Provide an information about parent/children nodes to the upper
layer (e.g. lvol)
Realization:
1) Structure parent-children is stored in the blob store object
and updated on:
a) blob store load,
b) blob create/delete,
2) Full information about parent-children is provided via new API:
spdk_blob_get_parent() and spdk_blob_get_children(),
Note:
While we don't store an information about these relations in the
blob store, we need to open all blobs on blob store load to create
it. It should be considered that it have an impact on the blobstore
loading performance.

Recently added a new call to bdev modules to inform them of when
bdev subsystem init is complete. The intention is for modules like
RAID or crypto that need to take some action after the initial bdev
subsystem init such as 'build whatever RAID volumes you can, all
initial examine callbacks are done' or in the case of crypto 'OK,
construct all of your crypto structures for HW and SW PMDs and
associate each to configured vbdevs.'
Now that I've implemented the crypto case I see that the call was
misplaced and will execute following any examine_done call including
subsequent bdev registrations. Those cases, for both RAID and crypto,
need to follow a different path (examine) since all of the activities
associated with the new init_complete() callback are intended just for
the very first initialization of SPDK.
So, long story short, moving this call so that it's only executed once
when subsystem init is done and not on subsequent bdev registrations.

This is an internal NVMe driver function, so we don't need to allow for
the case where trid is NULL. All callers already passed an address of a
local variable except the unit tests, which can be trivially fixed.
Fixes a static analyzer warning about trid being dereferenced in
nvme_transport_ctrlr_construct() before being checked for NULL in the
caller.

It doesn't make sense to assert(pg != NULL) after already dereferencing
the pg pointer.
Additionally, pg is pointing into the g_spdk_iscsi.poll_group array, so
it makes more sense to check that the poll_group array is non-NULL.

This value was recalculated on each time slice. Instead, just
set it up right away.
Right now QoS is statically configured at creation time for bdevs,
which means we can get away with this. Once dynamic
configuration is added, events will need to be sent to the QoS
thread.

Update the thread-local caches with new namespace data during each call
to spdk_nvmf_subsystem_remove_ns to handle the case where the user
requested to remove a namespace and then immediately add a different
one at the same namespace id. This makes the call asynchronous.

spdk_io_device_register() doesn't have a return value, but we can at
least catch trivial mistakes like neglecting to pass a valid io_device
or create/delete callback in debug builds.
One invalid unit test case that passed NULL for all parameters is
removed, since there's no way to make that work without adding a return
value instead of asserts.

The namespaces exposed by the NVMe-oF target may be attached to multiple
(virtual) controllers at once, so we should indicate this via the
Namespace Multi-path I/O and Namespace Sharing Capabilities (NMIC) field
in the Identify Namespace data.

Imagine the following code flow:
1. `spdk_put_io_channel();`
2. `spdk_io_device_unregister();`
Since putting an io_channel is always deferred,
it is likely that spdk_io_device_unregister will
lock the io_channel mutex first. It will set
dev->unregistered flag and then quickly realize
there are still open channels for this device
(refcnt > 0) - so it'll return. All fine here.
However, if the deferred put_io_channel happens to
lock the mutex first from other thread, it will
decrement the refcnt and attempt to free the device.
Both the decrementation and freeing are done under
a mutex, but there is a slight window inbetween
where the mutex is re-locked. spdk_io_device_unregister
is already sleeping on a mutex_lock(), so it might
strike now. It'll see there are no more io_channels
for this device and free the device. Once
put_io_channels regains the lock again, it will attempt
freeing the device for a second time.
This patch removes the slight window mentioned above.

When testing whether QoS is enabled, the code previously
checked mutable values in the bdev itself. Instead, it needs
to check the flag in the channel.
Right now, QoS can only be configured statically when the
bdev is created. This means that no channels will exist
prior to QoS being turned on, which simplifies setting
the per-channel flag (only need to set it when a channel
is created).

Making the subsystem removal asynchronous seems to be triggering an
intermittent failure in the NVMe AER test. Let's revert this for now
until we can diagnose the issue.

Performing a subsystem update on each poll group after the addition or
removal of a namespace allows us to avoid the case where we pause a
subsystem, perform a removal, then an addition, resume the subsystem and
don't update the channel for that subsystem. This, however requires that
spdk_nvmf_subsystem_remove_ns be asynchronous.

This patch fixes issue where user creates 2 lvols
with the same name simultaneously. New solution
builds list of names of lvols that are currently
being created and when new request comes it compares
name against existing lvols and lvols that are in the
process of creation.

Previously, there was a period of time where the user
had put the last reference to a channel, but when
calling to get a new channel would end up with the
previously created channel and channel destruction
would never execute.
This causes a number of unexpected issues to pop up,
as often the creation and destruction of a channel
is a key event.

Reason: Initiator sends the qpair deletion in wrong order.
The correct order should be all io qpairs deletion and then
the admin qpair deletion. However, nvme perf does not follow
this since we did not catch ctrlr + c. If we catch ctrlr + c,
we need to use the spdk app framework, or other methods. We should
support this in another patch.
Morever, to prevent the incorrect behavior causing the coredump
of target, we need also consider such case in our NVMe-oF target
design. And this patch, can solve this issue, it will defer the
admin qpair deletion when there are still active io qpairs.

As of glibc version 2.3.4 onwards getpid() is no longer cached. SPDK
makes calls to it in nvme_allocate_request() which is called for each
nvme request received. This results in a system calls up to millions of
times per second which slows down nvme submissions. Since the pid never
changes, it only needs to be called once in initialization per process.
This improves the performance of nvme_allocate_request() signficantly.

Add new optional bdev module interface function, init_complete, to notify bdev modules
when the bdev subsystem initialization is complete. Useful for virtual bdevs that require

Moved it to the DPDK thread, so that we don't stress
SPDK I/O reactors on device start/stop. This is mandatory
if we want to maintain hundreds of simultaneous connections.
This patch also fixes various memory registrations leaks
in cases where further device initiation fails.

Replace the few existing uses of size_t as lvol size with uint64_t for
consistency. size_t is meant to represent the size of an object in
memory, and it may be smaller than uint64_t (e.g. on 32-bit platforms).

rte_vhost_driver_start() can start a new posix thread
that polls for incoming socket connections and calls
backend->start/stop_device. Soon we're going to put
more work on this thread, so we need to make sure it
doesn't collide with SPDK reactors.
This patch also fixes vdev memory leaks in case the
rte_vhost_driver_start() fails.

Intermittent failures with the RocksDB tests pointed to
corruption in the MANIFEST file. Further debug showed that
the MANIFEST file would be corrupted when its cache was
evicted. Blobfs was partly handling append after cache
eviction - it would write the data to the correct position
within the blob. But the sync path would not write the
updated file length xattr when the cache had been evicted.

The bdev layer has three types of channels:
* bdev channels - one per bdev per thread
* module channels - one per bdev module per thread
* management channels - one per thread
Arrange this in a hierarchy where bdev channesl point to
module channels which point to management channels. Rely
on the channel mechanism to reference count and release
resources at the correct time.

If the host sends a Dataset Management command that does not specify the
Deallocate attribute, the NVMe-oF target should return success; the spec
says that this command is advisory, and all combinations of attributes
may be set.

Instead of silently truncating overly-long SCSI dev names, add an
explicit check and return an error if the name is too long.
Since we now calculate the length of name up front, this also allows
simplification of the copy into dev->name.
This also ensures that dev->name will always be zero-terminated, so we
can simplify the strnlen() in spdk_bdev_scsi_pad_scsi_name() to a
strlen() and remove the invalid unit test case for padding names longer
than SPDK_SCSI_DEV_MAX_NAME.

Due to the check on line 153 in t_nvme_dev, Klocwork
thinks nvme can be null. Therefore, we must check that
it isn't null before dereferencing it. We can either
solve this the way I have here, or remove check
that causes to_nvme_dev to return null.

This commit moves the name verification function out of the
spdk_lvol_create.
Also changes return value from -EINVAL to -EEXIST when name
already exists in lvol store, as more informative. It implies
that spdk_lvol_create also returns -EEXIST error code for
this case.

New call creates a read-only snapshot of specified blob with provided options.

To support resize operations during I/O, we will need
to send messages to each thread to quiesce I/O while
the resize operation is in progress to guard against
the cluster map memory changing while another thread
is accessing the cluster map.
Therefore, spdk_blob_resize needs to be asynchronous.

This was internally asynchronous already, but make it

by placing the destroy function in the callback of the
io_device_unregister, we ensure that all channels associated with a bdev
will be freed before the bdev is destroyed. This eliminates the
possibility of an io_channel callback referencing a destroyed bdev.

Split bdevs now can be create using "create_split_bdev". To keep
backward compatibility, this call will not fail if base bdev is not
available yet instead will add base bdev name to its live configuration
and create splits when base bdev will be created (during examin
process).

The NVMe-oF subsystems that our target exposes may have multiple
subsystem ports and multiple controllers; report these in the Identify
Controller data structure Controller Multi-Path I/O Capabilities field.

IOAT module of copy engine requires config information in the .INI
config file. However dump config text is not supported yet.
Dump config text is legacy feature but this becomes a preparation
for the upcoming JSON config file.

As there is no I/O channel associated with the QoS
bdev channel, add the specific functions to handle
the reset operation on the QoS bdev channel. The
reset operation will be conducted on the QoS thread.
Related UT code on QoS with reset operation was also
included.

Users can use RPC to add/remove a namespace to/from
existing NVMe controller, SPDK NVMeoF target will
generate an asynchronous event as an indication to
host when asynchronous event request is available.
While here, we also set the event with invalid log
identifier, so that the host doesn't need to clear
the event. Users can use Set Feature to disable
such event.

Currently construct_error_bdev() fails if the base bdev doesn't exist.
This patch add configuration of the error vbdev for the base bdev instead,
and the configuration will be parsed at examine() when the base bdev is
created.
This will improve the usability of error injection for bdev and will be
usable for the upcoming JSON config file.

This protects against brute-force initialization that virtio
is not really prepared for. Most importantly, this behavior
makes us Virtio spec compliant (3.1 Device Init.).

Similar with exist vhost scsi/blk target, this commit introduces
a new target: vhost nvme I/O slave target, QEMU will present an
emulated NVMe controller to VM, the SPDK I/O slave target will
process the I/Os sent from Guest VM.
Users can follow the example configuation file to evaluate this
feature, refer to etc/spdk/vhost.conf.in [VhostNvme].

With the preferred per core operation for the lockless
consideration, having some per core cache instead of
the shared gloal cache will help the performance.

DPDK 17.11 added a public API, rte_vfio_is_enabled(), that we can use
instead of declaring and using pci_vfio_is_enabled(). This removes one
of the remaining non-public DPDK symbols we are currently using, getting
us closer to building against the shared library version of DPDK.

Most of these don't actually do anything useful yet, but they are all
required by the NVMe 1.3 specification.
The features are also rearranged in numeric order to make it easier to
match up the cases in the switch statements to the specification.

This is required by the Virtio spec. (3.1 Device Init.)
It will also help us with vhost-user error handling.
set_status() doesn't have a way to return an error, so
its internal failures were silenced until now. When we
exceeded max memory region count (8) we only printed
an error message without failing any SPDK initialization.
This patch fixes that. It also removes not-particularly-
useful comments in virtio_dev_reset().

1) The user should provide MaxNamespaces during the construction of the subsystem
2) The namespace which is added should have nsid less than or equal to MaxNamespaces
3) If the user does not provides MaxNamespaces then the exsisting behaviour continues where the nisd can grow dynamically when it is not connected.

Instead of accessing the qos_channel pointer on the bdev,
always have the QoS parameter on the allocated memory of
qos_channel structure.
The bdev->qos_channel is set to NULL in the destroy operation,
and the destroy is through the async message which could
be executed later after the poller function within which
the bdev->qos_channel is accessed (thus a NULL pointer
dereferenced).
In this case, assign the memory address of the allcoated
qos_channel to the function as the parameter to solve
this issue.

We don't need to re-register memory with the same ibv protection domain
more than once; maintain a global list of already-registered PDs and
reuse the existing registration for other queues.

There is a call to spdk_bdev_close () during spdk_bdev_part_base_free
(). This will trigger spdk_bdev_module-> module_fini () if this is the
last descriptor to the last bdev. In module_fini () resource might be
freed. But then, after spdk_bdev_close(), call to base_free_fn () is
done which may try to free the same resource again.
To avoid this, call spdk_bdev_module_finish_iter () after
_spdk_bdev_finish_unregister_bdevs_iter () return.
