1551197db5 rpc: Deprecate max_qpairs_per_ctrlr parameter
This parameter describes the number of admin and IO
qpairs while admin qpair always exists and should not
be configured explicitly.
Introduce a new parameter `max_io_qpairs_per_ctrlr`
which configures the number of IO qpairs.
Internal structure of NVMF transport is not changed,
both RPC parameters configure the same nvmf transport parameter.

Deprecate max_qpairs_per_ctrlr in spdkcli as well

Side change: update dif_insert_or_strip description -
it can be used by TCP and RDMA transports

Config files parsing is not changed since it is deprecated

Fixes #1378

e757878190 accel: always write JSON with an array of objects for accel modules
Patch below added writing out json configuration for accel modules.
(fad052b0) accel: add write_config json for accel modules

Out of two current modules, only idxd reported its confi out.
When idxd was not compiled in, then "framework_get_config accel"
RPC did not return a valid JSON. Following JSON was returned:
{\"jsonrpc\":\"2.0\",\"id\":1,\"result\":}

Where "result" never had any property given.

This patch adds array object to encompas all accel modules.

Next patch in series will try to address the issue on JSON
level.

6f97efb784 test/make: add leaf type changes check to check_so_deps.
This is an important aspect of ABI versioning.

There was a change to the spdk_bdev_opts struct
which is accessible from the public API that results
in an ABI change.

There was also a change in the spdk_accel_module_if struct that
will affect new modules so its major version needs to be revved.

There was also a change in the publically accessible rmda_hooks
structure which forced an ABI change in the NVMe library.

c62887ad0b nvme/cuse: add dynamic nvme cuse devices update
This patch adds a posibility to update cuse devices after cuse
device registration.

To guarantee consistency, after changing the number of namespaces
NVMe CUSE devices must be repopulated after Namespace Manage

44f69a9e51 nvme: add a quirk for QEMU emulated NVMe SSD
When starting the QEMU NVMe SSD with "cmb_size_mb=XX"
parameter, the controller memory buffer feature is
enabled in the Guest, the SPDK NVMe driver running
in the Guest will allocate the submission queue in
the controller memory buffer by default, it will use
memset and SSE instruction when copying NVMe command
to the submission queue entry or zero the whole
submission queue, inside the memset implementation
the AVX2 instuction will be used if the CPU can support
such feature. However, due to the limitation in the
QEMU, the maximum access width to the PCI BAR space is
set to 8 Bytes, SPDK will report illegal instruction
in Guest.

Here we add a quirk for the QEMU emulated NVMe.

Fix issue #1362.

cf450c0d7c env: Add spdk_mem_reserve
The spdk_mem_reserve() function reserves a memory region in SPDK's
memory maps. This pre-allocates all of the required data structures
to hold memory address translations for that region without actually
populating the region.

After a region is reserved, calls to spdk_mem_register() for
addresses in that range will not require any internal memory
allocations. This is useful when overlaying a custom memory allocator
on top of SPDK's hugepage memory, such as tcmalloc.

RDMA provider is used as an abstraction layer and allows

Future patches will add functions to queue/flush Work Requests,
enable usage of RDMA providers API in NVMEoF target/initiator and
add Mellanox Direct Verbs implementation. This abstraction layer
is flexible enough to add other vendor's implementations.
The choice of a specific RDMA provider will be made at

d3cf561199 nvme/pcie: reduce physically contiguous memory for CQ/SQ
Following patch made sure that CQ/SQ are allocated in
physically contiguous manner:
(64db67) nvme/pcie: make sure sq and cq are physically contiguous

Using MAX_IO_QUEUE_ENTRIES is enough to make sure that either
queue does not span multiple hugepages.

Yet the patch made sure that whole page is occupied only
by the queue. Which unnecessarily increases memory consumption
up to two hugepages per each qpair.

This patch changes it so that each queue alignment is limited
up to its size.

Changes in hugepages consumed when allocating io_qpair in hello_world
application:
io_queue_size Without patch	With patch
256 8MiB 0MiB
1024 12MiB 4MiB
4096 24MiB 16MiB
Note: 0MiB means no new hugepages were required and qpair fits into
previously allocated hugepages (see all steps before io_qpair
allocation in hello_world).

Intersting result of this patch is that since we required alignment
up to the hugepage size this resulted in reserving even two 2MiB
hugepages to account for DPDK internal malloc trailing element.
See alloc_sz in try_expand_heap_primary() within malloc_heap.c

This patch not only reduces overall memory reserved for the
queues, but decreases increase in heap consumption on DPDK side.

2234bb665d Transport: allocate a global array of transports
Currently the new transport is dynamically allocated and looks like
not freed when the application exits. Trying to use the
__attribute__((destructor)) function to free the allocated memory,
it will not work in the case of user created thread as this function
is called right after the "main" function while other operations
may be still ongoing.

In this case, add a global array of transports.

cbe9ea52d0 lib/log: add spdk_vlog function
Some users of SPDK API, such as OCF,
may want to generate logs with arguments themselves.
In that case they would need to first create a buffer
and then pass that buffer as a single argument to spdk_log().
This change adds spdk_vlog() which accepts va_list as argument list,
so it is easier to use spdk_log().

2187424ab2 lib/vhost: remove dependency on lib/event
In current implementation, lib/vhost assumes that it always runs
together with lib/event, and would call lib/event's functions in
vhost.c. This is not necessary and make program unable to
create/destroy vhost module without init/fini the whole spdk env. It
would cause problems when program runs with vhost and other spdk
components together.

In this patch, we remove the dependency of lib/vhost on lib/event by
adding a global vairable g_vhost_core_mask so that it could handle
core mask by itself.

bcc28e05d1 vhost_blk: speed up the vhost device boot
When starting qemu with vhost-user-blk multiqueue(set num-queues to
more than 1), the vhost device will be started/stopped many times
(related to the queue num), as the vhost-user backend doesn't know the
exact number of queues used for this device.
The target have to stop and start the device once got a valid IO queue.

When stoping and starting the vhost device, the backend bdev io device
will be deleted and created repeatly.

If the backend bdev is a distribution system, the cost is large as the
network RTT.

In this patch, add a dummy_io_channel to hold a reference to the io
device, so that the io device will not be deleted.

ba1d0d7220 nvmf: set sgroup for spdk_nvmf_request_exec_fabrics() API
When using spdk_nvmf_request_exec_fabrics() to connect one IO
queue, the qpair->ctrlr is null before this function, and the
qpair->ctrlr will be set to associate controller after the
connect, so it will check the sgroup->io_outstanding count,
then we can hit the assertion.

caa9d4c87a lib/log: allow omiting filename/lineno information
In spdk_log() accept filename = NULL.
If filename is NULL then source information as well
as log level is not displayed.

This change allows to replace all usages of
printf() and fprintf(stderr,) by
SPDK_PRINTF() and SPDK_ERRLOG() which use spdk_log().

Using spdk_log() instead of printf() is always prefered
since SPDK can be used inside of another application
where SPDK logs could be redirected.

SPDK uses printf()
places where location info is not needed
we cannot replace it by SPDK_NOTICELOG().

This change is in the scope earlier planned task:

3044bd27d0 lib/accel: remove RPC for setting the module
This was added before the usage of having a SW engine and 2 HW
engines was fully thought out. The current rules are:

* if no HW engine specific enable RPC is sent, use SW
* if a HW engine specific enable RPC is sent, use it
* If a 2nd HW engine specific enable RPC is sent, ignore

In this scheme there's no need for an RPC that lets the user
choose which engine to use because they already do so when
they enable an engine.

4b4b3cca9f nvme/ctrlr: Allow targets not supporting Keep Alive Timer feature ID
NVMe spec defines "Keep Alive Timer" feature ID as optional and there
are targets that do not support this. SPDK fails to connect to such

This patch allows Get Feature "Keep Alive" target to fail with

timer value stored in controller opts structure. This value is already
communicated to target in CONNECT command.

a4340e4501 Set low watermark in NVMe/TCP target to a more appropriate value.
In SPDK NVMe/TCP target, when initializing the socket, the low
watermark is set to sizeof(struct spdk_nvme_tcp_common_pdu_hdr),
which is 24 bytes. In our testing, some times there might be very
small data packet (as small as 16 bytes) be sent to wire. After
this, if there is no more data sent to the same socket, this small
data packet won’t be received by NVMe/TCP controller qpair thread
because the size hasn’t reached the low watermark. Because of this,
the qpair thread is waiting for more data come in and the initiator
is waiting for the IO request to be completed. Hence the delay
happens.

As the minimum data that allows target to determine the PDU type is
sizeof(struct spdk_nvme_tcp_common_pdu_hdr), which is 8 bytes, we
changed low watermark setting as below. With the change, the problem
was gone immediately.

cfb65ba611 test: add generic unlink wrapper
reduce library uses unlink, but the unit tests need to
override it in a specific way.

But linking unit tests with LTO requires the wrapper
definitions be in objects/libraries listed *after*
the object/library that refers to it. So we need to
make the unlink wrapper somewhat generic. We do this
by exporting a string and callback function that the
user can set to enable a user-defined function to be
called when unlink() is called with a specific file
name.

Also revert 3ef6d06 as part of this patch, since we
no longer require the workaround that it implemented.

33f97fa33a lib/ocf_env: fix incorrect value for free memory estimate
OCF relies on our env to get information about free memory.
It then uses that information to return a descriptive
error if not enough memory is available.
But no other calculation done based on that value.

Our implementation was not correct because it returned
the size of available physical memory in the system,
while we use HUGEPAGE memory for most of OCF operations.

There doesn't seem to be a reliant API for getting
the size of available HUGEPAGE memory, so instead
return UINT64_MAX, as it is done in ocf/env/posix/ocf_env.h.
This way, OCF will not know ahead of time if there
is enough memory available, but it will still fail
properly on operations that require too much memory.

Previous to this change it was possible to register

5b03dd938c module/idxd: accel framework plug-in for idxd
Docs, RPC, unit tests, etc., will follow. Notes:

* The current implementation will only work with VFIO.

* The current implementation supports only the existing accel
framework API. The API will be expanded for DSA exclusive features
in a subsequent patch.

* SW is required to manage flow control, to not over-run the work queues.
This is provided in the accel plug-in module. The upper layers use public
API to manage this.

* As we need to support any number of channels (we can't limit ourselves
to the number of work queues) we need to dynamically size/resize our
per channel descriptor rings based on the number of current channels. This
is done from upper layers via public API into the lib.

* As channels are created, the total number of work queue slots is divided
across the channels evenly. Same thing when they are destroyed, remaining
channels will see the ring sizes increase. This is done from upper layers
via public API into the lib.

e58e9fbda8 lib/idxd: add low level idxd library
Module, etc., will follow. Notes:

* IDXD is an Intel silicon feature available in future Intel CPUs.
Initial development is being done on a simulator. Once HW is
available and the code fully tested the experimental label will be
lifted. Spec can be found here: https://software.intel.com/en-us/download/intel-data-streaming-accelerator-preliminary-architecture-specification

* The current implementation will only work with VFIO.

* DSA has a number of engines that can be grouped based on application
need such as type of memory being served or QoS. Engines are processing
units and are assigned to groups. Work queues are on device structures
that act as front-end groups for queueing descriptors. Full details on
what is configurable & how will come in later doc patches.

* There is a finite number of work queue slots that are divided amongst
the number of desired work queues in some fashion (ie evenly).

* SW (outside of the idxd lib) is required to manage flow control, to not
over-run the work queues. This is provided in the accel plug-in module.
The upper layers use public API to manage this.

* Work queue submissions are done with a 64 byte atomic instruction

* The design here creates a set of descriptor rings per channel that match
the size of the work queues. Then, an spdk_bit_array is used to make sure
we don't overrun a queue. If there are not slots available, the operation
is put on a linked list to be retried later from the poller.

Same thing when they are destroyed, remaining
channels with see the ring sizes increase. This is done from upper layers
via public API into the lib.

* The sim has 64 total work queue entries (WQE) that get dolled out to the
work queues (WQ) evenly.

d421876f98 lib/iscsi: Fix conn->state not go back to EXITING by using spdk_thread_send_msg
Updating conn->state had not been guarded by any mutex. When SPDK
iSCSI target has multiple SPDK threads, iscsi_drop_conns() may update
conn->state by a thread different from the thread of conn->pg.

This patch ensures conn->state is updated by the thread of conn->pg
by sending a message to the thread.

This fix is not perfect but connection reschedule is done only once
per connection when moving to the full feature phase. So this fix
will be simple and enough for now.

Deprecating INI tyle configuration has been a long time coming.
Feature parity is there between JSON-RPC and INI, which should

a2201d050b lib/sock: Introduce lazy free of spdk_sock_placement_id_entry
Purpose: Fix the unbalanced allocation of socket connection.
Suppose we have 4 spdk threads, then there will be 4 sock groups,
each on one spdk thread. And When using the NAPI_ID, each
sock group will be responsible for one NAPI_ID.
For example,
Poll group: A, B, C, D,
connection with NAPI_ID: 0, 1, 2, 3.

However if connection with NAPI_ID 2 exits first, and we will allocate
socket A (with the roundrobin manner, But not C again). So to avoid
this, we choose lazy free.

Since when the sock poling group is close, it will free them
finally in spdk_sock_remove_sock_group_from_map_table. So
there is no memeory leak, but eliminates unnecessary allocation/dellocation
on spdk_sock_placement_id_entry.

6f38799b6e lib/nvmf: call ctrlr_fini after clearing qid from ctrlr bit array.
As soon as we disconnect the qpair, the initiator can submit an
additional request to connect a qpair with the same qid as the
one we connected.

This series is aimed at making sure we don't acknowledge a disconnect
until we have cleared that bit.

9d39be44c5 nvmf/ctrlr: remove assert for qpair state.
Historically, we have immediately called the qpair
fini function directly from _spdk_nvmf_qpair_destroy.

However, to fix a race with initiators where we can get
a duplicate QID from the initiator, we will have to clear
the QID bit before calling qpair_fini. Clearing the QID bit
must be done on the controller thread, so we have to pass at
least two messages between calling _spdk_nvmf_qpair_destroy
and qpair_fini. This leaves a gap where we can poll the poll group
and reap completions for the qpair before we call qpair_fini and drain
all of the requests related with the qpair.

d7a3a052ab ocf: update ocf submodule to v20.3
New OCF version is ready, so update our submodule.
There were a lot of API changes so
we need to adjust our bdev/ocf and lib/ocf_env code.

Description of code changes:
- env: added small functions like ENV_BUILD_BUG_ON, env_vzalloc_flags
- env: added "destroy" method for all locks
- env: added "execution context" interface
- cache/core "id" field made private
- signature of "ocf_io_configure" changed
- "io->volume" field made private

List of changes to OCF is available at
https://github.com/Open-CAS/ocf/releases
But no new features were implemented for our
OCF module since 19.6
