dbeed703c2 rpc: remove the existing socket file when application starts
Currently if the application exits with some error (i.e., core
dump), the socket file is not removed. So that at next time the
RPC method can not enabled unless user manually removes the
socket file. The error of failing to start RPC is not that
obvious.

This patch introduces a lock for the reuse socket to properly
detect the only usage and handles the above error case particularly.

Refer to https://gavv.github.io/blog/unix-socket-reuse/ for the
details.

For the concern of the sockect file can be shared from different
applications, in the spdk_app_opts struct, it offers a parameter
to assign a specific socket file per application.

17d55c9fd4 bdev/virtio: added vhost-blk initiator
Briefly tested with SPDK target via bdevio

vhost-blk driver is not mentioned in any doc yet.
A virtio-blk bdev can be created as following:

`construct_virtio_user_blk_bdev /tmp/virtio.0 MyVirtioBlk0 --vq-count 16`
`construct_virtio_pci_blk_bdev 0000:01:00.0 MyVirtioBlk1`

or

```
[VirtioUser0]
  Path /tmp/vhost.0
  Type Blk
  Queues 16
[VirtioPci]
  Enable Yes
```

If `Type` field is not present, the VirtioUser
section will be parsed as a SCSI one, preserving

ee8af4e9f3 blob: fix _spdk_bs_load_ctx_fail ordering
Finish the sequence first, before calling _spdk_bs_free().
Otherwise synchronous bs_devs (like we use in the unit
tests) cause the sequence memory to get freed via
_spdk_bs_free() and then we try to finish the sequence.

This eliminates the need for g_scheduler_delay and
_bs_flush_scheduler() in the blob unit tests. But don't
remove them - they will be useful in upcoming unit tests
for queued persist operations.

2db06132b0 bdev: change bdev io_device handle to odd offset
Many bdev modules create their own bdev structure
with spdk_bdev as the first member. bdev.c currently
uses the spdk_bdev pointer as its io_device handle,
forcing bdev modules to pick something different.

Change this to use the spdk_bdev pointer + 1 bytes
as its io_device handle. The actual handle does not
really matter - it just needs to be unique. This will
simplify bdev module development.

4e4b48a9b7 net: add group support for multiple spdk_net_impls.
Supporting sock_groups with multiple spdk_net_impls
is a bit tricky. We cannot just allocate space off
the end of spdk_sock_group for the implementation-specific
details - we need separate allocations for each
spdk_net_impl so that one spdk_sock_group can handle
spdk_socks from multiple spdk_net_impls.

Unit tests will come in upcoming patch.

4a6fe72ec0 net: make the sock_group_poll code more generic
Have the main spdk_sock_group_poll_count routine
just pass an array of sock pointers to the posix

can just fill out which spdk_socks have data and let
the caller do the callback routines.

This moves a fair bit of code from the posix implementation
to the common code, which will simplify the upcoming

2ecab7bd6a net: remove ability to override default net_framework
In early days of SPDK, there was an experimental userspace
TCP stack called libuns. The SPDK iSCSI target supported
using either the default POSIX/kernel TCP stack or this
libuns TCP stack.

libuns is no longer in use, but work has started on
supporting the FD.io VPP TCP userspace stack. Abstractions
are being put in place to allow *both* the POSIX and VPP
stacks simultaneously.

So remove the concept of a "default" net_framework that is
defined with weak symbols that can be overridden by another
object file. While here, also remove the "clear_socket_association"
concept which was specific to libuns.

20fbd09a78 vhost: reenable indirect descriptors
Patch 808a2b05 [1] fixed overflow of avail entries count,
also fixing indirect descriptors support. Without indirect
descriptors, we usually didn't manage to fill entire queue
- there were always a couple of descriptors left. A couple,
but not enough to form a vhost-scsi descriptor. Indirect
descriptors, however, are 1-descriptor long. They have higher
possibility to fill entire avail queue, and that's why they
used to fail more often. But we can safely reenable them now.

da78c67091 vhost: drop VIRTIO_F_NOTIFY_ON_EMPTY feature
This feature is not particularly useful for storage.
It forces us to read additional vq memory on each

Quoting VIRTIO 1.0:

```
VIRTIO_F_NOTIFY_ON_EMPTY (24)
If this feature has been negotiated by driver, the device MUST issue an
interrupt if the device runs out of available descriptors on a
virtqueue, even though interrupts are suppressed using the
VIRTQ_AVAIL_F_NO_INTERRUPT flag or the used_event field.
```

Later on:

```
Note: An example of a driver using this feature is the legacy networking
driver: it doesn’t need to know every time a packet is transmitted, but
it does need to free the transmitted packets a finite time after they
are transmitted. It can avoid using a timer if the device interrupts it
when all the packets are transmitted.
8f29093660 vhost/blk: set blkcfg->num_queues to the max available queues number
QEMU overrides this value anyway, but other
virtio implementation may not. Setting
blkcfg->num_queues to its target value
won't break anything, and will help out
SPDK virtio-blk driver implementation.
For equivalent field in virtio-scsi, the
Virtio 1.0 spec says:
```
num_queues
is the total number of request virtqueues exposed by the device. The
driver MAY use only one request queue, or it can use more to achieve
better performance.
```
Multiqueue for virtio-blk is oficially still
unsupported, so the blkcfg->num_queues remains
undocumented. Let's implement it adequately
to the virtio-scsi spec.
face9eb258 virtio: add mb() before checking notify flag
The kernel vhost target enables notifying after processing
each interrupt in a following manner.
 * unset NO_NOTIFY flag
 * mb()
 * check avail ring for slipped requests
And we do the following after issuing each I/O.
 * update avail ring
 * check NO_NOTIFY
If NO_NOTIFY check is reordered and read first, we might read
old `true` value, and avail ring might be updated after the
kernel has already done its check. This easily leads to deadlock.
2ea005f0a9 iscsi: Unify the ordering of PG create_op between conf-file and JSON-RPC
Orderings of portal group create operation are diferrent between
config file and JSON-RPC. Unification is necessary for correct
concurrency control and the global accept poller like NVMf-tgt.
Hence unify the ordering of operations in this patch.
Common ordering of portal group create operation between configuration
file  and JSON-RPC after this patch is the following:
 - create a portal group
 - create portals
 - add the portals to the portal group
 - open the portals of the portal group
 - add the portal group to the global portal group list
After this patch, the gap between listening socket and accepting socket
will be increased a little when portals groups are creted by config file.
However this will cause no issue because of the TCP backlog and resend
mechanism.
Besides, necessary concurrency control is added and minor refactoring
is done.
About portal group delete operation, orderings of application shutdown
and JSON-RPC are already unified.
33a97f2e3f blob: print error when dma allocation fails
For thin provisioned blobs we allocate dma memory
required for copying cluster from backing device.
When cluster size is too big dma allocation may fail
silently (only IO error).
Use PRIu32 to print out the cluster size, and while
here, fix two other places that were using %d to print
cluster size instead of PRIu32.
b33e0caf90 json: fix spdk_json_decode_array() bounds check
The spdk_json_decode_array() function previously tried to check whether
the array would fit into the provided number of output elements
(max_size) before decoding; however, the check was incorrectly comparing
the total number of nested JSON values in the array rather than just the
count of top-level array elements.
Rather than doing the check up front (which can't be done without
modifying the way array lengths are stored in spdk_json_value), just
check if we have reached the end of the 'out' array on each iteration of
the decoding loop.
Fixes GitHub issue #232.
Upcoming patches will utilize this for metadata updates
always be done on the metadata thread - but we want
the metadata thread to actually do the metadata sync
operation to guard against races from allocations on
601bcbcf66 util: extend cpumask to hold more than 64 cpus
Fixes github issue #218.
This patch introduces spdk_cpuset object to store and manipulate
the set of individual CPUs. The main objective of this object is
to replace cpumask declared as uint64_t and extend the limitation
of supported CPUs (lcores) above 64 CPUs.
spdk_cpuset is always allocated dynamically and accessed by opaque
pointer, what makes it easier to extend in the future without
breaking API/ABI.
This patch also extends parsing function allowing to set cpumask
using a list of cpus e.g. "[0-4,10,12]" sets mask of 0,1,2,3,4,10,12
as well as hexadecimal string with and without "0x" prefix.
b6aaba0852 bdev: remove vbdevs during spdk_bdev_unregister()
spdk_vbdev_unregister() is part of internal bdev API,
yet bdev module that uses spdk_vbdev_register() directly
will not be removed correctly when using delete_bdev RPC.
spdk_vbdev_unregister() is now consolidated with
spdk_bdev_unregister().
This comes up when deleting lvol bdev, as it does not use
spdk_bdev_part_* functions.
base_bdev->vbdevs entry was not removed for bdev that lvs
is created on.
Additionally patch expands test to create lvol bdev,
after removing it using delete_bdev RPC.
With ASAN enabled this would report accessing
already freed memory previously.
20528e262d iscsi: simplify spdk_iscsi_conn_stop_poller()
All calls to this function now use spdk_env_get_current_core()
as lcore, so remove this parameter.
All calls to this function also use _spdk_iscsi_conn_free() as
the stop_fn, so remove that parameter as well - just call that
function directly from the callsites and eliminate the extra
event.
f570aa654a vhost: only split on 2MB boundaries when necessary
vhost I/O only need to be split on 2MB boundaries if
there is a break in the VM's memtable at that 2MB
boundary.
This should drastically reduce (if not eliminate)
the intermittent test pool failures seen recently.
virtio limits number of segments to 128, but this
2MB splitting could introduce additional segment
breaks which we do not allocate IOVs for.  In almost
all cases, there are no memtable breaks except at
low 2MB, so most of the extra segment breaks we are
adding are unnecessary.
4d48d87a7f iscsi: remove idle connection handling
Some upcoming changes will effectively render this moot
anyways by adding an epoll/kqueue descriptor to poll
on in all cases (not just connections that have been
The epoll/kqueue code was just ifdef'd out instead
of removed - some of this code will be useful
and reusable with minimal changes in the upcoming
patches.
936eb59d8d iscsi: use return code to determine if all PDUs were flushed
This will enable some future enhancements where the main
iSCSI connection poller will not try to flush PDUs, we will
just start a separate poller to periodically flush PDUs in that
case.
This is all part of broader scheme to enable epoll() for
iSCSI.  Making these changes allows us to avoid using epoll()
to signal when TCP buffer space is available.
Currently we test up to 512KB I/O sizes, and this I/O
